The real impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Irish businesses remains largely unknown as Government support measures have continued to mask the true trading performance of many companies. With the remaining supports expected to be phased out by April 2022, many commentators predict an increase in trading restructures across the SME sector in the second half of 2022. The Small Company Administrative Rescue Process (SCARP), a restructuring tool introduced in December 2021, could offer a pathway to survival for smaller companies in financial distress who have an underlying viable business.
