Arts/Entertainment
The Irish Chamber Orchestra [ICO] is Ireland’s most dynamic orchestra, combining innovation, creativity and mixing traditional repertoire with new commissions. Based in the University of Limerick and funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, the ICO pushes the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can do, collaborating with everyone from DJs to dance companies!
Each year, the ICO presents concert seasons in both Limerick and Dublin as well as touring the country on our national tours, and with the support of Culture Ireland we also embark on international tours, bringing our innovative programmes around the world.
Here at the ICO, we believe that music is for everyone. Our groundbreaking initiative, Sing Out With Strings (SOWS), gives primary school children in Limerick the chance to learn to play music free of charge, helping to develop key life skills and providing these talented young people with long-term benefits!
We are also very proud of our ICO Youth Orchestra, set up to further nurture young musicians (age 12-18) giving them the support to continue to grow. Several of our former SOWS students now play with the Youth Orchestra.
